The Texas vehicle power of attorney form is a form that a Principal (Grantor) will provide permission for an appointed Agent (Grantee), authorized powers to title and register a motor vehicle on behalf of the Principal in the event of their absence. This document is not to be used with regard to any dealer assignment of title, inasmuch as this type of transaction will require an Odometer disclosure. If a dealer transaction is being conducted, Form VTR-271-A will be required.
This document must be typed or printed (if written it may only be completed in black or blue ink) Be certain to complete all fields properly, any alterations to this document will render it unacceptable.
How to Write
Step 1 – Vehicle Information – Submit the following information:
- Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
- Year
- Make
- Body Style
- Model
- License Plate State and Number (if any)
- Title/Document Number
Step 2 – Grantor (Principal) Information –
- First Name (or Entity Name)
- Middle Name

- Suffix (if any)
- Address

- State
- Zip Code
Step 3 – Grantee (Agent) Information –
- First Name (or Entity Name)
- Middle Name
- Last Name
- Suffix (if any)

Step 4 – Certification by Grantor (Principal) -The Grantor must carefully review the statement in the final box within this document:
- The Grantor (Principal) must submit their signature
- Enter the date of the signature in mm/dd/yyyy format
